Movement Leader Interviews in Hindi

Six interviews about Movement Leaders in Hindi.

When I set out to help Jeff Sundell with interviews on Movement Leaders I had no idea how well received they would be. They are by far the most listened to podcast episodes I’ve published. (You can find the entire season here.)

What happened next is even crazier. Robert Harris, a missionary from South Asia, contacted me about publishing a few interviews on the same topic, but in HINDI.

In full disclosure, I don’t speak any Hindi. But according to Robert, these are the first interviews about movements every recorded in that language. I’m pretty jazzed I got to play a part!

Jeff Sundell interviews Bill Smith about movement leaders. Bill shares some great insights on what to look for in a movement leader, a very clear warning for leaders, and a story from Wuhan that doesn't involve COVID-19.

Show Notes:

I took some sporadic notes on what Bill was saying below. You'll be better to listen to it yourself, but if you want quick snapshot, here is what Bill looks for in movement leaders:

    • They are genuinely saved.

    • They have a sense of the lostness of others and God's heart for lostness. They grieve over lostness at some level, even just their own family or village.

    • They are people that are continually learning.

    • They are doers: people that are doing something and want to accomplish something in their life.

    • They have suffered to get something. They have been tested and are passing the test.

    • It is someone that you can connect with, spiritually, interpersonally, etc. There is a chemistry with their mentor. Sometimes you can pass people off to others that they will have a better connection with.

    • They are people that say: "I've done what God had asked. What's next?"

Here are some thoughts from Bill on developing leaders:

      • When you're face to face with someone, be all in on that person for that time. Ask God: What does that person need from me for their next step?

      • Depend on God to bring others into their lives for those next steps.

David Garrison on Movement Leaders

David Garrison, Executive Director of Global Gates and author of Church Planting Movements, chats with Jeff Sundell recognizing and developing movement leaders.

David Garrison, Executive Director of Global Gates and author of Church Planting Movements, chats with Jeff Sundell recognizing and developing movement leaders.

Show Notes:

  • Here are the twelve characteristics of Movement Leaders that David gives.

    • They have a Magnificent Obsession: Movement leaders "see it before they see it."

    • They have a "My People syndrome": They adopt an unreached people group as their own people.

    • They have a WIGTake (What's It Gonna Take?) worldview rather than a "What am I good at?" way of thinking.

    • They are lateral thinkers: They learn from failures and keep seeking another way to solve problems.

    • They never take no for an answer when it comes to reaching their people for Jesus.

    • Ruthless evaluation: The strategy and tactics change as they pursue the vision. They set aside things that don't work.

    • They recognize this is God's work, not their work. They see themselves as the ant that rides the elephant across a river.

    • They know how the story ends. The promise of Revelation 5:9 is true.

    • It's not about them. It's about God's glory and seeing Christlikeness multiply among unreached people.

    • God can hit straight with a crooked sticked. Movement leaders don't fall out of heaven, but rise up out of hell. Things can be messy. God will work in unexpected ways.

    • This is about the whole body of Christ fulfilling the great commission, not just one church or denomination. Look for super-spreaders scattered throughout the body of Christ.

    • God never places an order that he doesn't pay for. This isn't a fools errand. We are joining God in his work.
