What Rogue One taught me about finishing the Great Commission

So I’m a little late to this party. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, came out in 2016 and I just watched it in 2024. If you are not familiar with the Star Wars Saga then feel free to ignore this post. If you are familiar with it, you’ll remember that Rogue One is the Disney-made story of how the Rebels obtained the plans for the Death Star. It immediately precedes Episode 4. Some key connections between Rogue One and reaching a lost and dying world:

  • The theme of sacrifice was huge.

  • The call to do what is needed over what is safe was huge.

  • There is an end to the story. We see that good triumphs over evil. On that journey, people are expendable. (Expendable isn’t a great word here.) On that journey, people have a role to play, and that role may end in death.

  • Each person’s role is individually important, but at the same time is part of the bigger story.

If there is any merit to these…

Are you living a life of sacrifice for the Kingdom? Are you doing what is needed instead of what is safe and comfortable? Are you okay with your role in the great commission, no matter how it ends for you?
